REWORKING THE LIBRARY

Hi, I am Xinyun Zhang (Dorothy)
This is my 3rd year studying architecture in RMIT University. I have participated in studios like "NGV3", "YIMBY", "FOOTSCRAY CITY" during my previous three years. I am a level 5 student in the Bachelor of Architectural Design Program. This semester I joined in the studio called "Reworking the Library".
My Interest
My dream is to design my own house and achieve all my crazy ideas in my design. This is why I started to be interested in architecture design. Outside of architecture, I like hip-pop music especially k-pop. Also, watching drama series and entertainment programs is my favorite when I stay at home. I also like travelling to visit different architectures and take photos. Photography is my hobby, I take my camera everywhere to record my life. I enjoy finding different views to take interesting photos. So I am studying "Art and Photography" this semester.
About Architecture
I found my interest in architecture when I travel to different places in China. I like to know about their ancient history. And then, I started to sketch different buildings and imitate drawings from books. My favorite architect is Bernard Tschumi. His Parc de la Villette is amazing. I like his unique design of grid and trajectory lines. I want to visit there someday. Also, the Manhattan Transcripts influenced me a lot when I studied designing narrative of architecture.
About Libraries
I think libraries are both quiet space for learning inside and multi-funtional urban infrastructure to engage with surroundings. Also, the heritage of library should be preserved. There are many new concepts of interior design for libraries like spiral reading gallery areas in Stuttgart City Library. I think future library should have more new concepts like this to create new experience for people when they reading. I also like the light and shadow of Philips Exeter Academy Library interior design by Louis Kahn.
